There were two cottages on the lake in 1955: the one on the island (built in 1936) and one on the southwest shore of the lake (built c. 1950). The New Ross/Vaughan road was gravel, narrower and more crooked than today's paved highway. The locations of the two sawmills that were active early in the 20th century are visible in the 1955 photo, cleared areas on the lake shore east of MPHA lot #3, and at lot #30 (approximately).
